Yes you can enable or disable benchmark in Fraps. You should open Fraps, go to 99 FPS panel where you will see that you have the option to set a benchmark hotkey to enable or disable the feature (F11 is the default key). Also you can deactivate benchmark by ticking the box next to Stop benchmark after and setting the value to 0. Below is an image of the panel where you should input your settings:

Is Fraps freeware or shareware? It records only 30 seconds. Do I need to buy it to record more?

Fraps application is shareware, by default, but you can download a trial version from the official website. Indeed, after it's installed, the software is limited and provides only basic functions. Besides that, it doesn't allow full time recording, and embeds watermark on your images or videos.

If you buy the software, these limitations will be removed, therefore you will have the possibility of using it as you please.

Fraps allows you to hide or show FPS based on the configuration mode from its own interface. Firstly, you need to select where the FPS will be placed and then use the hotkey assigned to show or hide it. Start the application, then switch to FPS tab and use the Overlay Hotkey to assign a keyboard command to show or hide the FPS in-game.

No, there is no portable version of Fraps. The official website, does not provide to its users the possibility of downloading a portable version. There are 3rd party websites, but I wouldn't recommend on using them because of possible malware spreading. Or, if you have an installed antivirus software then you can proceed to download it. One website from where you can download Fraps is PortableApps.

No, Fraps can't be used for desktop recording, because there is no DirectX or OpenGl activity. You can record only launched applications and games (99 % of the cases) that were developed using DirectX and OpenGl. You should see if Fraps is activated by the presence of FPS display in one of the four corners of your monitor.

To have a desktop solution, choose an application like Camtasia. With Camtasia you can record every activity on your desktop, regardless if it's full screen or not, game or an application.

What is Frap's performance and functionality when compared to Bandicam?

S
Answer by Sean Hill

Both Fraps and Bandicam are benchmarking, screen capture, and real-time video capture utilities for video applications. These are usually used to determine a computer's performance with a game, as well as recording live games. The features of these two programs resemble, Bandicam having the option to record videos with resolution only up to 3840 x 2160 while Fraps can go up to 7680 x 4800 . Also Fraps can't record from OpenGL sources while Bandicam can support this type of content. For more information about each software please visit their websites:
